Ria Custom Portfolio

For nearly two years, ASNB Ria (Robo Investment Advisor) has been helping Malaysians take a more structured approach to long-term investing. Built on Modern Portfolio Theory and supported by ASNB's more than four decades of fund management experience, Ria was designed to make portfolio management more accessible and to guide Malaysians toward consistent, well-diversified investing.
Until now, Ria offered six preset portfolios ranging from Very Conservative to Very Aggressive, each made up of ASNB unit trust funds and automatically managed to match users' risk profiles. Backed by Malaysian and global equities as well as sukuk (Islamic bonds), these portfolios have provided a clear and structured path, particularly for first-time or less experienced investors.
ASNB is now introducing Custom Portfolio, a feature that gives investors more say in how their portfolio is set up. Instead of choosing only from six fixed options, users can adjust their exposure to ASNB's equity and sukuk funds to better suit their own goals and comfort levels.
Why Custom Portfolio and Why Now?
1. Investors Are Becoming More Knowledgeable
Since its launch, Ria has been adopted by a wide range of users, from first-time investors to working professionals building long-term wealth. As more Malaysians grow comfortable with investing, many are looking for a bit more control while still relying on Ria's automated rebalancing and management tools.
The Custom Portfolio feature lets them adjust their allocations based on their own preferences, whether that means focusing on Malaysian equities, exploring global markets, or leaning more toward sukuk.
2. Different Goals Call for Different Approaches
The six preset portfolios work well for many investors, but people often save for more than one goal at a time, whether that is a home deposit, a child's education, retirement, or general savings. Each goal may benefit from a slightly different allocation.
With the Custom Portfolio feature combined with Ria's portfolio renaming feature, an investor building a long-term retirement portfolio may increase global equity exposure for higher potential growth and rename it "Retirement Fund" to reflect their goal, while another saving for short-term commitments may reduce volatility by leaning more into sukuk and rename it "Short-Term Savings" to stay aligned with their objective.
3. Staying on Track With Your Goals
Market ups and downs can sometimes lead investors to make impulsive decisions, whether out of worry during a dip or overconfidence during a rally. Ria already helps address this by automatically rebalancing portfolios to keep users on track.
The Custom Portfolio feature supports this further. Once users set their preferred mix, Ria keeps it in place through regular rebalancing, so their portfolio continues to reflect their original intentions.
What the Feature Offers
✔ Tailored Fund Weighting
Users can adjust the proportion of ASNB equity and sukuk funds (e.g., ASN Equity Global, ASN Equity Malaysia, ASN Sukuk) within predefined boundaries to keep their portfolio well-diversified.
✔ Automated Portfolio Management
Even with custom allocations, Ria continues to:
· monitor risk alignment,
· rebalance periodically,
· reinvest dividends automatically.
✔ Familiar User Experience
The feature fits within the existing myASNB platform, keeping the experience simple and easy to navigate.
✔ Flexible, With Guidance Still in Place
For those who prefer a straightforward option, the six standard portfolios are still available. For those who want more input, Custom Portfolio offers a middle ground between hands-on investing and full automation.
Why This Benefits Ria Users
1. More Control Without More Complexity
The feature allows investors to have a say in their portfolio without needing to manage every detail Ria still handles the heavy lifting; rebalancing and execution.
2. Better Alignment to Personal Financial Goals
Investors can set up a portfolio that suits their own goals, timelines, and risk tolerance, and rename it to reflect those goals, rather than fitting into a standard category.
3. More Precise Diversification
With adjustable weightings across Malaysian and global equities and sukuk, users can work toward a mix that better fits their long-term needs.
The Bigger Picture: ASNB’s Vision for Malaysia’s Financial Future
From the outset, Ria has been part of ASNB's broader purpose: to support the financial well-being of Malaysians and make investing more accessible.
The Custom Portfolio feature reflects this, recognising that many Malaysians are now more informed and ready to take a more active role in their financial future.
With ASNB's backing and regulatory oversight, investors can take on this added flexibility with confidence.
How to Build Your Own Portfolio
Setting up your own mix is easy. Here’s how you’ll see it in the app:
1. Start Your Journey: On the main screen, tap "Get Started" to begin building your investment plan.
2. Risk Assessment: Answer a few quick questions about your financial goals and comfort with market fluctuations. Based on your responses, we'll identify your investor risk profile.
3. Choose Your Path: When you reach the portfolio selection screen, you’ll see a toggle between Core and Custom. Simply tap "Custom" and select "Create custom portfolio".
4. Find Your Balance: This is where you call the shots. Use the plus and minus buttons to adjust your mix of Global Equity, Malaysia Equity, Sukuk, and Cash until you hit 100%.
5. Preview the Specs: We’ll show you a preview of your custom mix, including the expected return, the risk level (like "Very Aggressive"), and how long you should plan to stay invested.
6. Check the Fit: If your custom mix is riskier than your initial assessment, a warning will pop up. If you're happy to proceed, just tick the box and tap "Proceed".
7. Make it Official: Decide how much you want to invest. You can make a one-time deposit or set up a recurring one to keep your savings growing automatically.
